18 must first get the written consent of both parents, or request permission
from a superior court judge.
FACTS
ABOUT MINORS AND ABORTION:
- 55 %
of all young women involve their parents in the decision to terminate
their pregnancy. 75 % of these women were under 15 years old.
- 75 %
of teenagers having abortions say they cannot afford to have a baby.
66 % think they are not mature enough to have a baby.
- Teenage
girls are 24 times more likely to die from childbirth than from a
legal first trimester abortion.
- Planned
Parenthood estimates that 12,000 young women have crossed state lines
to get confidential abortions since
- Massachusetts
first enacted restrictions to minors' access to abortion.
- Over
a 15 year period only 13 young women have ever been denied a judicial
bypass. Even the courts believe a young women make choices in their
best interest. The law only serves to extend the period of time young
women must wait before obtaining an abortion.
